The COMPASS Project

COMPASS – Human Mobility Observatory between the Canary Islands and Africa is an initiative co-funded by the Interreg MAC 2021-2027 Cooperation Programme. It is focused on developing sustainable solutions for migration management on the route between Africa and the Canary Islands, with a special emphasis on reducing deaths and disappearances during maritime transit. The cooperation area covers the Canary Islands, Gambia, Mauritania, and Senegal.

The Challenge We Address

Managing irregular migration flows is a complex challenge that requires the coordinated involvement of international organizations, public administrations, NGOs, security forces, R&D centers, technology companies, and civil society. Only through a collaborative approach is it possible to map the ecosystem, identify gaps, and propose innovative and effective solutions that protect the lives of people in transit and support host communities.

What is the COMPASS Network?

The COMPASS Network is the meeting and working space for all stakeholders involved in this mission. Through its intranet, members can:

• › Exchange knowledge and propose joint actions.
• › Collaborate in identifying innovative solutions to prevent deaths and disappearances on the migratory route.
